How much does stump grinding cost?
Pricing depends on stump size, root spread, and access. Most residential stumps fall into a predictable range, and we always provide a free, no-obligation quote before any work starts. Call or text Rob at (226) 919-7288 with a rough size and a photo if you can.
How deep do you grind the stump?
We grind stumps below grade, typically 4 to 6 inches below the surrounding soil. That's enough to re-sod, replant grass, or lay topsoil over the spot. Going deeper is possible if you're planting a new tree or building over it. Just let us know.
Do you remove the wood chips and clean up?
Yes, cleanup and chip removal are part of what we offer. Some customers prefer to keep the chips for mulch or fill, which is fine too. Whichever you'd rather, we leave the area tidy.
Can you fit through a backyard gate?
Our self-propelled grinder is built for tight access and fits through standard 36 inch gates. It rolls on rubber wheels, so it doesn't tear up your lawn, walkways, or driveway on the way through.
How long does a job take?
Most single residential stumps take under an hour. Larger stumps or jobs with multiple stumps can take longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate when we quote.
Are you insured?
Yes, Berg's Stump Grinding is fully insured. We're happy to provide proof of insurance for property managers, golf courses, municipalities, or anyone else who needs it on file.
What time of year is best for stump grinding?
We grind stumps year round in Ontario as long as the ground isn't frozen solid. Spring and fall are the busiest, but mid-summer and mild winter days work too. If you're planning to re-sod or replant, plan ahead a week or two.
Can I plant a new tree where the stump used to be?
You can, but it's better to plant a few feet away from the exact spot. Old roots and ground wood take time to break down, and the soil there will be loose and lower in nutrients. If you're set on the same spot, dig out the chips and replace with fresh topsoil before planting.
